A Board of Trustees for the Ga West Corporate School Educational Fund has been inaugurated to ensure that needy but brilliant children in the municipality are offered the necessary support in their education.
The Board, which is chaired by Edwin Barnes, a retired civil servant, has Emmanuel N.O. Laryea, Member of Parliament (MP) for Amasaman, Moses Anim, MP for Amasaman-Trobo, Addo Dankwa Akuffo, Amasaman Municipal Director of Education and Madam Beatrice Agbalenyo, Assemblywoman for Amasaman, as members.
Mr. Sam Atukwei Quaye, Ga West Municipal Chief Executive, inaugurating the board, noted that parents have a duty to enroll their children in school despite socio-economic challenges
The fund, he said, was expected to complement the efforts of parents and government in providing quality education for deprived children.
Mr. Quaye said many children of school-going age remained at home, particularly due to poverty, and called on parents and guardians to enroll them so as to benefit from the Fund.
He said the Fund would ensure that the gap between the rich and poor was closed to give hope to current and future generations.
The Municipal Assembly is providing GH¢50,000 as seed money for the Fund while the two MPs pledged to donate GH¢25,000.00 from their share of the common fund to support it.
The MPs assured the Board of Trustees of their continuous support to the Fund to ensure that the youth secured good education.
