The Ga West Municipal Assembly (GWMA) has donated assorted items to the traditional council to assist the chiefs and people in this year’s Homowo festival.
The items included 50 bags of maize, 20 gallons of palm oil, 10 cartons of Schnapps, 20 crates of assorted alcoholic drinks, 20 crates of assorted non-alcoholic drinks and an undisclosed amount of money.
Mr. Sam Atukwei Quaye, the MCE, said the donation was an appreciation of the immense contribution of the traditional leaders to the development of the municipality.
According to him, the chiefs and queenmothers contributed a lot to community mobilisation and land lease for developmental projects, hence the assembly felt the need to assist them to celebrate their festival during this month.
Mr. Quaye disclosed that this was the first time the assembly had made such presentation to the traditional council for the Homowo festival.
He explained that previously the assembly made such presentation to individual chiefs and queenmothers, adding that, the donation to the traditional council would be shared among members in the council.
Receiving the items, the chief of Amasaman, Nii Oseiku Amasa II expressed gratitude to the assembly for their support for this year’s festival and pledged their continued support to the development of the municipality.
The chief of Ofankor, Nii Kortey Boi II, who is also the presiding member for the assembly, urged his colleague chiefs to use this year’s festival to promote peace as the country prepares for elections in December.
