The Ga South Municipal Assembly has mobilised GhȻ2,066,257.65, representing 59 per cent of GH¢3,500.00.00 estimated Internally Generated Fund (IGF) for the 2018 financial year.

To ensure effective revenue generation, the assembly has formed a taskforce to monitor and collect all outstanding bills and rates.

Mr Joseph Nyarni Stephen, Ga South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who announced this at the second session of the first assembly on Wednesday, warned that the assembly would arrest and prosecute all those who would default payment of bills and rates

He said “we are expected to collect GH¢5,800,000.00 as Internally Generated Fund next year and the projection is expected to form the basis for the 2020-2022 revenue target, which is expected to increase by 300 per cent respectively.”

Mr Nyarni said the assembly was expected to mobilise GH¢23,180,926.38, GH¢24,339,972.70 and GH¢25,556,971.35 for 2020, 2021 and 2022 respectively, to supplement the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF).

He disclosed that the assembly had developed its own ICT software, known as the ‘Zebra Revenue Management Software’, for the billing and monitoring revenue operations, and entreated all Assembly Members to support the initiative.

The MCE indicated that the assembly received a total of GH¢742,836.11 as its share for 2018 from the office of the Administrator of District Assemblies Common Fund, which according to him would be spent on capital expenditure.

Mr Nyarni said the assembly’s indebtedness as of last October, was GH¢867,470.88.

On the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP), he said 1,301 people from 21 communities had so far benefitted from the scheme, and about 836 people from 21 communities had been enrolled onto it.

He said 20 persons had benefitted from the Disability Fund, to improve upon their health, education and income generating activities.

The MCE made it known that the assembly was awarded for winning a competition on innovative IGF strategy.

He also stated the assembly was among five selected to participate in the 4th Local Government Professional Conference held last month 2018, at Ho, the Volta regional capital.

The others are Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, Ho Municipal Assembly, Kwabre Municipal Assembly, and Suhum Municipal Assembly.

Mr Nyarni said some Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies had learned from the success story of the Ga South Municipal Assembly.

He disclosed that the assembly was working closely with all the security agencies to maintain peace and security, especially as Christmas approached.

On sanitation, the MCE stated that, six companies had been selected to start the supply of dustbins to all households in the municipality, and urged Assembly Members to assist the companies during the exercise.
