G. Accra to host NAFAC 2016

The Greater Accra Region will host the next edition of the National Festival of Arts and Culture in 2016 after Brong-Ahafo’s successful hosting came to an end on Sunday at the Sunyani Jubilee Park.

The six-day event saw in attendance 50 exhibition stands showcasing different kinds of cultural artifacts.

The Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, Justice Samuel Adjei, who handed over the baton to Mr. George Oppong, the Greater Regional Director of the Centre for National Culture (CNC), at the closing ceremony of NAFAC 2014, challenged the officials to ensure a more successful event in 2016.

He said NAFAC as an event to promote culture and tourism had bestowed “on us our rich culture and diversity” stressing that the event had offered the people the opportunity to witness the unique culture of the nation’s traditional heritage.

Touching on the significance of NAFAC, the deputy minister said the celebration created the platform for the business community to gain economically through the sales of their products as well as the eminent guests who graced the event.

He commended the President for adding colour to the celebration with the official launching.

He expressed gratitude to the chiefs and people, the traditional rulers and the planning committee for their contribution for the successful celebration of the programme.

The Greater Accra Regional Director of CNC George Oppong promised that Accra will not only host a successful NAFAC in 2016, but will also organise a splendid event.

School children from various schools in the municipality treated some patrons of NAFAC to a wonderful performance to runoff the celebration. Poetry recitals, drama and rap music were some of the performances on that day.

NAFAC 2014 in the Brong-Ahafo Region though successful, failed to attract the needed patronage from the general public due to low publicity.
