Fulani herdsman jailed for unlawfully causing harm

The suspect,  Amadu OsumanuA 38-year-old Fulani herdsman has been sentenced to five years imprisonment in hard labour by the Koforidua Circuit Court for unlawfully causing harm to Iddrisu Adam at Okorase, near Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

Amadu Osumanu is said to have slashed the victim’s shoulders severally with a machete resulting in wounds.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawfully causing harm but was found guilty by the court, presided over by Mrs. Cynthia Wiredu, who slapped him with the five-year jail term.

Presenting the facts of the case to the court, Inspector Owusu Bronya said the complainant, Akwei Emmanuel, aged 50, is a farmer who had hemployed the accused to take care of his cattle.

They both live, at Okorase.

He said after Osumanu’s engagement, he started misconducting himself, leading to a series of destruction of people’s property by the cattle in the area.

The complainant unable to further bear with Osumanu’s misdeed, dismissed him and employed another person to take care of the cattle.

The complainant also asked Osumanu to vacate the house he provided him for the newly employed person to occupy but Osumanu refused.

On October 3, 2014, at about 10 a.m., the complainant in the company of the victim, a friend to Osumanu went to find out whether he (Osumanu) had vacated the house.

To their surprise,Osumanu was still in the house and that led to an argument between the complainant, and the victim on one side, and Osumanu.

Osumanu, in the course of the argument, accused the complainant of flirting with his wife, which the victim denied.

Osumanu, the prosecution said, dashed into his room and returned with a machete and slashed the victim in the shoulders, and he bled profusely.

Victim was quickly sent to the hospital and a report was made to the police.

Osumanu was arrested and after investigations, arraigned before the court.
