MAXIME Hamou has been banished from the French Open after attempting to kiss a female journalist.

The 21-year-old has been criticised after kissing Maly Thomas while holding her around her neck and shoulders.

It came after Hamou had been knocked out of the competition at the first round stage by Pablo Cuevas.

The French Tennis Federation condemned Hamou’s behaviour after the defeat.

“The management of the tournament has decided to revoke Maxime Hamou’s accreditation following his reprehensible behaviour with a journalist,” a statement read.

The footage was shown on Eurosport, who have also issued a statement.

Hamou said: “I want to offer my deepest apologies to Maly Thomas if she felt hurt or shocked by my attitude during her interview.

“I have just experienced a wonderful week here in Roland Garros, living my most beautiful emotions as a tennis player, and I let my overflow of enthusiasm express myself awkwardly towards Maly.

“I am available to apolgise personally if she wants. I am still learning from my mistakes every day to become a better tennis player and a better person.” – MirrorOnline
