Commodities trading house Touton Group has purchased a cocoa bean processing factory in Ghana, the company said in London at the weekend.
The facility has capacity to process 24,000 tonnes of beans annually, according to a Reuters report.
Touton said production capacity is expected to rise to 30,000 tonnes by late this year.
The factory was previously owned by Niche Cocoa Industry Limited and terms of the deal were not disclosed.
France-based Touton has been sourcing cocoa from Ghana since the 1980s, but the acquisition marks its first processing activity in the world’s second-largest cocoa producer.
