Frempong Wins ‘Yokohama 2013’ Marathon

maraThe  2013 development queen of the Manya Krobo traditional area otherwise called ‘Yokama 2013’ organised a marathon for the youth of the area with the aim of unearthing talents and promoting healthy lifestyle.

Known in private life as Mrs. Linda Adadevoh, she was adjudged the Yokama 2013 by the Konor of Manya Krobo, Nene Sakite II, for her accomplishment of empowering women and the youth with training and other life skills.

Yokama is a title conferred on an outstanding woman by Nene Sakite II every year.

Three hundred athletes from various keep fit and youth clubs in the area, took part in the 26-kilometre run which started at exactly 6:30 a m from the Somanya roundabout through Akuse Junction, the Kpong township and ended at the Odumase-Krobo Laasi Park, the finishing point.

The event was supervised by the District National Sports Authority and ensured that the participants were taken through medical and physical fitness screening to ensure they were fit enough to embark upon the maiden edition of the marathon race.

Kwabena Frimpong, a resident won in a time of one hour, 10 minutes and 52 seconds followed by Atsu Adukpo Godwin who reached in an one hour, 11 minutes, eight seconds (1:11:08) while Yandal Joseph took third place in one hour 11 minutes and 35 seconds.

Ms Amoani Regina earned a respectable position in the women’s division.

The winners were presented with a trophy each, cash, hamper, medals and certificate as prizes.
