FOWIS Garners Support For Black Princesses

The Foundation for Women in Sports (FOWIS), a non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has organized a float to garner support and raise funds for supporters who will be in Canada to support the Black Princesses at next month’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

The float started from the Hearts Park and moved through the Makola market and its environs, and headed for Asylum Down, Kanda and ended at Dzworwulu amidst drumming and dancing while funds were solicited from the general public.

At Makola, the Director of FOWIS Mrs. Olivia Gonzalez presented about   100 T-shirts to the Market Queen of the Accra Markets Association (AMA), Madam Mercy Nee Djan and called for support for the Princesses.

Receiving the T-shirts on behalf of the market women, the market queen assured FOWIS of the support of the traders. Madam Djan expressed her happiness the Princesses for qualifying again for the World Cup and was hopeful they will return with the trophy. Mrs. Gonzalez said the foundation hopes to send about 200 fans to Canada, depending on the funds raised.

She expressed gratitude to the National Lottery Authority (NLA) and banks which have supported the initiative and called on other institutions and individuals to support.
