Footballer remanded for illegally possessing ‘wee’

A Kumasi Circuit Court has remanded into custody, a 27-year-old footballer, illegally possessing 23 wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

Elvis Baafi, accused, pleaded not guilty to the charge and would reappear before the court presided by Miss Patricia Amponsah, on December 19, 2019.

Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Felix Akowuah, told the court that the complainants are police personnel stationed at the Drug Law Enforcement Unit in Kumasi, whilst the accused is a resident and native of Asante Mampong. 

He said on July 3, 2019, the complainant embarked on an operation at Mampong and its environs to flush out illicit narcotic drug peddlers and users.

ASP Akowuah said the police arrested accused in possession of the drugs, suspected to be cannabis, concealed in a polythene bag at Anweam, a suburb of Mampong.

Prosecution said, the accused together with the exhibits was taken to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit, Kumasi for investigations. 

He said forensic tests conducted on sample of the exhibits in the presence of the accused, proved positive for cannabis.

ASP Akowuah said accused denied the offence in his cautioned statement, but was charged and arraigned. – GNA
