Residents of Coronation, a suburb of Cape Coast, woke up to tragic news on Saturday morning as the lifeless body of a 53 -year- old fisherman, Kwabena Atta Panyin, was found hanging on a rope tied to a tree in a nearby bush.
The father of seven and resident of Amissahekyir, also a suburb in Cape Coast is believed to have committed suicide but the police in Cape Coast are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic death.
His body has since been deposited at the Cape Coast Metropolitan Hospital mortuary pending autopsy.
Briefing The Ghanaian Times, Kobina Gyasi, a resident of Coronation said news broke at dawn that someone had hanged himself attracting scores of people to the scene and upon confirmation the District Police Command was informed.
According to one of the children of the deceased, whose name was only given as Maame Aba, their father complained of stomach upset at dawn and subsequently told them he was going to the place of convenience only to be told he was dead.
The distraught daughter said the family could not fathom why their father would decide to end his life, adding that they were devastated by the news as they were yet to recover from the pain from losing their mother recently.
