Fisherman convicted for assaulting rival, former wife

A Magistrate Court in Winneba has sentenced a 30-year old fisherman to a fined of GH¢120.00 for assaulting his former wife, and the woman’s current lover, or in default serve two months in prison in had labour.

 

Micah Essiful alias Kobina Essiful pleaded guilty to the charges, and the court also ordered the convict to compensate Kow Nkebi, the woman’s current lover, and complainant.

 

Prosecuting, Detective Police Inspector Peter Agbelie told the court presided by Mr. Isaac Oheneba-Kufour that Nkebi, a fisherman and Maame Ekua Agyiribah, a trader resides at Equaboano, a suburb of Winneba, while accused also a fisherman, lives at Fetteh also a suburb of Winneba.

 

According to prosecution, accused and Agyiribah were in a relationship and have five children.

 

Detective Police Insp Agbelie said about two years ago, Agyiribah opted out of the marriage due to persistent beatings, and found a new lover, Inkebi.

 

The prosecution said on July this year, while complainants were sleeping in Nkebi’s room, Essiful and his friend ( now at large) went there, knocked on the door, and when Nkebi came out of the room, accused assaulted him and bit the chin.

 

The accused also assaulted his ex-lover, Agyiribah, when she attempted to aid Nkebi, the prosecution said.

 

Insp Agbelie said complainant reported the case to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Winneba, where a medical report form was issued to Nkebi to seek medical attention. – GNA
