Attram – Will lead Olympics on their DOL campaign

The 2015/16 GN Bank Division One League (DOL) will kick-start on Saturday at all centres with the clash between former premiership sides, Accra Great Olympics and Okwawu United as the most attractive pairing.

The two sides are billed to lock horns in a top day one fixture of zone three on Sunday at the St. Thomas Aquinas School Park, at Cantonments.

Known as the ‘Soccer Mountaineers’ in their glory days, Okwawu United have found it difficult to stage a return to the Premier League over a decade after their relegation, despite coming so close on some occasions.

Within the period that Okwawu have remained in what is termed as the wilderness of Ghana soccer, Olympics have enjoyed a mixed ride, qualifying to the elite league on three occasions and getting relegated at the end of the season.

The ‘Wonder Club’ got relegated again last season after a last minute rally failed to save them.

On Sunday, the two sides would kick into motion another campaign in a tough group that has other potential sides like Heart of Lions who also got relegated last season, Danbort FC, Tema Youth and AmidauS Professionals.

Despite losing some of their finest players, including Kwame Boateng to Kotoko and Agbashi Dotse to rivals Accra Hearts of Oak, the ‘AGOSU’ lads would still be buoyed by the presence of the experienced Dan Quaye, Godwin Attram and Osei Boateng to undo their opponents.

The absence of the two strikers, plus the failure of the club’s management to get key players like Joshua Oninku, Frank Appiah will make things difficult for Coach Yaw Acheampong but the presence of Ofoe Ofotsu and George Brako means they have enough arsenals at the back to thwart the effort of the mountaineers.

At Kwahu, King Solomon will engage Tema Youth; Pure Joy host Vision FC at Prampram while Instanbul host Sporting Mirren at Akim Takyiman.

On Saturday, Nania will engage Roberto; Lions play as guests of Danbort; Mighty Jets and Kotoku Royals will slug it out at Teshie with Amidaus hosting Planners at Tema.

In zone two on Saturday, Deportivo will clash with Samartex at the Baba Yara Stadium, Tarkwa United host Dunkwa United at the T&A Park with Corners playing at the Baba Yara Stadium on Friday against Nzema Kotoko.

On Sunday, Elmina Sharks will take on King Faisal at Elmina, Goldstars host Vipersa at Bibiani, T&A Park will host clash between Wassaman United against Achiken with Starke hosting Proud United at Dunkwa. Karela will engage XI Wise at Anyinase CAM Park.

In zone one, Techiman will host the Berlin and Wa Rockets game while Steadfast versus Mighty Royals is honoured at Tamale Main.

On Sunday, Arsenal host RTU at the Berekum Park, At Tamale Main, Guan United will oblige FC Tanga, Mpuasuman will play Liberty Babies at Japekrom Presby Park, BA United will play as guests of Unity at Goaso, Bofoakwa host Bawku United at the Sunyani Coronation Park with Tamale Utrecht storming Bolga to face the might of All Stars.
