Female students of Senior High Schools (SHS) in the country have been urged to desist from uploading nude pictures and personal information about them on social media.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Effia Tenge, the Head of Public Relations of the Accra Regional Police Command said such detailed information expose victims to criminals such as kidnappers.
She gave the advice at a Forum of Heads of Girls Senior High School (FOHGSHS) summer camp 2019 at Aburi Senior High School (SHS) in the Eastern Region on Wednesday.
The programme which was under the auspices of the Accra Regional Police Command and in collaboration with Lexta Ghana Limited, producers of Yazz range of products, was aimed at sensitising the female students on kidnapping and other related crime issues in the country.
It brought together female students from 42 SHS with their headmistresses from Accra Wesley Girls Senior High Schools(SHS), Suhum, Saint Mary SHS, Methodist Girls SHS,Suhum Presbyterian Secondary, Gambaga Girls in North East, SHS, Mfantsiman Girls SHS in Cape, and TI Ahmadiyya SHS, among others.
DSP Tenge said to prevent kidnapping and related crimes, the public should be mindful of free rides, undue demands and gifts from strangers.
“Inform trusted people of your movements and avoid spontaneous schedule and also look out for potential threats and people who approach them in hostile environment,’’ She added.
She urged the students to let their parents or guardians known who their friends are and avoid late nights outing with unfamiliar friends.
DSP Tenge urged the students to always call on the police on emergency numbers such as the 191 and the 19555.
She advised the students to decline odd job offers from people they know.
The Headmistress of TI Ahmadiyya SHS, Hajia Ayesha Nyanta Kyiwaa Boakye in an interview with the Ghanaian Times commended the personnel of the Command for the initiative and called on them for more of such initiative.
She called on students to apply the knowledge acquired and share with their colleagues at schools and homes.
As part of the event, personnel from the Command performed a sketch on kidnapping for the students.
