Suspect Barikisu

A female commercial sex worker has been arrested by the police for allegedly attacking a man and stealing his valuables at Madina in Accra.

Identified only as Barikisu, she was reported to have masterminded an attempted rape and later called in her accomplices who are currently on the run and being sought for by the police.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Accra Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Effia Tenge, told The Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday that at about 8pm on October 27 the victim (name withheld) went to Madina to board a vehicle to Koforidua in the Eastern Region and was approached by Barikisu, soliciting for sex.

ASP Temge said the suspect took the man to a nearby kiosk, and after removing her clothes, started shouting that she was being raped.

Her accomplices rushed in, attacked the man and took an unspecified amount of money and a mobile phone from him.

ASP Tenge said the case was reported to the police and Barikisu was subsequently arrested at Madina.

In another development, two young men have been arrested by the police for allegedly stealing mobile phones from vehicles.

They are Bashiru Amadu, 21, a scrap dealer, and Richmond Yahaya, 23, a trader.

ASP Tenge said at about 7:30pm, on October 22, the two conspired and stole mobile phones from a motorist in traffic and took to their heels.

The victim raised an alarm and they were arrested by a mob.
