Felicia Bortey confident ahead of NDC regional election

Incubent Greater Accra Regional Women’s Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Felicia Mekpoi Bortey, is optimistic of retaining her position at the party’s regional polls slated for the Trade Fair Site in La, Accra, tomorrow.

She is being challenged by Lucy Rio Sebbie, a two-time Ashaiman Constituency Communications Officer and Secretary, who has been tipped to give the incumbent a fierce contest.

A third aspirant, Theresa Awuni, has pulled out of contention.

Popularly known as Maa Feli, the sitting Women’s Organiser believes her hard work and intimacy with the grassroots make her the favourite to keep hold of her position.

“I have worked assiduously over the years and on Wednesday I strongly believe the electorate will only repose their trust and confidence in me once again,” she said, pledging to empower and rejuvenate the women’s wing for Victory 2020 of the NDC.

Mrs Bortey has been at the forefront of a number of notable programmes of the party’s women’s wing in the Greater Accra Region including clean-up exercises, breast cancer awareness and other health sensitisation campaigns.

So far, 76 persons filed their nominations to contest the Greater Accra Regional executive positions on the ticket of the party, having already gone through vetting.

The number is made up of 66 males and 10 females.

However, aside from the women’s and youth wing elections to be held today, all other executive polls are expected to take place on Saturday, September 1.

Other executive positions being vied for on Saturday are chairman, vice chairman, secretary, deputy secretary, organiser, deputy organiser, treasurer, deputy treasurer, communication officer, deputy communications officer, and Zongo Caucus Co-coordinator.
