Staff of the Food and Drug Authority (FDA) have donated blood to help stock the Blood Bank in Accra.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FDA, Mr. Hudu Mogtari, speaking at the function, said “blood is a life-saving therapy for trauma cases such as accidents, burns, surgery and haemorrhage during labour, delivery and treatment of cancers and certain diseases.”
He said the World Health Organisation estimated that 26 per cent of maternal deaths in sub-Saharan Africa, including Ghana, were due to lack of quality and safe blood products hence the FDA had been working with the National Blood Service Ghana to ensure that every unit of blood collected was tested and stored before distribution in accordance with international standard and specifications.
A Senior Blood Donor Officer of the National Blood Services, Mr. Stephen Danso commended the FDA staff for the gesture, and urged the pubic to donate more blood to help save lives during emergencies.
