Father jailed 20 years for defiling daughter

pJuaso Circuit Court has sentenced a 46-year-old man to 20 years’ imprisonment term in hard labour for defiling his daughter, at Juaso in the Asante-Akim South municipality of Ashanti.

Yaw Boamah, who was said to have taken advantage of the vulnerability of his 12- year-old daughter and abused her sexually, pleaded guilty to defilement.

Police Detective Chief Inspector Birikorang Peasah, prosecuting, told the court, presided by Mrs Veronique Manfort, that Boamah lived with the victim and her elder sister in the same room at Juaso.

According to the prosecution, the victim had previously accused the father of having sex with her when she was nine years, but the family ignored the allegation on the grounds that the father could not have engaged in that act.

Chief Inspt Peasah said the victim, who used to live with one of her elder sisters was taken to the father, and she, the father and another sister shared the same room.

The court heard that on July 20, at about 11pm, the other sister woke up only to find her father having sex with the victim, and confronted him amid insults.

Chief Inspt Peasah said the victim’s sister reported the case to their mother, who was no more married to Boamah.

The court heard that when the mother confronted accused over the case, it resulted in a quarrel, a co-tenant of Boamah intervened and he (accused) was grabbed by some neighbours and handed over to the Juaso police.

He was charged with the offence after a medical form issued for the victim to be examined by a medical doctor, proved she had been sexually abused.
