A farmer, who allegedly stole a friend’s
motorcycle worth GH¢3,700.00 has been remanded
into police custody by the Enchi District Magistrate.
The accused, Takwan Binain, 22, who offered the
motorcycle for sale at GH¢2,000.00, pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing.
The court presided by Mr Eric Baah Boateng
deferred his sentence to today, Monday, November 4, 2019.
Prosecutor, Detective Sergeant Joseph Kwadwo
Agyare, told the court that the complainant, one Isaac Mannah lived at Yiwabra
in the Aowin Municipality, while the accused resides at Kpandai in the Oti
region.
He said the accused travelled from Kpandai to
Yiwabra and claimed he visited his two friends and decided to search for a job.
According to Sgt Agyare, the complainant got to
know accused through the Okada business and the accused and the two friends
hired the complainant’s motorcycle to Asankragwa and returned the same day.
On September 2, 2019, Binain went to the
complainant and pleaded with the complainant to release the motorcycle for an
important errand at Asankragwa and promised to return it the same day.
Sgt Agyare said the accused failed to return the
motorcycle and all efforts to retrieve the motorcycle failed, so the case was
reported to the police at Enchi.
He said on September 18, this year, a witness in
the case spotted the accused in Kumasi and informed the police, and he was
arrested and handed over to the police at Enchi.
Sgt Agyare said Binain told the police he went
to Prestea, and together with a friend, they sold the motorcycle for
GH¢2,000.00 after which his friend absconded to Nigeria with the booty.
The court heard that the motorcycle was
retrieved in Prestea. – GNA
