The Enchi District Magistrate Court has sentenced a farmer to 12 months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing four fowls valued at GH¢200.00.
Patrick Akuoko, 23, who was charged for unlawful entry and stealing, pleaded guilty to both counts, and the presiding magistrate, Mr Eric Baah Boateng, convicted him on his own plea.
The convict has recently appeared before the same court for stealing turkeys, and he was ordered to sign a bond to be of good behaviour for 12 months, but he defaulted.
Prosecuting, Police Detective Sergeant (Sgt) Joseph Kwadwo Agyare told the court that the complainant, Nana Yaw Bimpong, a farmer, lives at Karlo, and the convict is a resident of Gyampokrom, all in the Suaman District.
According to the prosecution, on April 19, 2019, the complainant visited his farm in Karlo and discovered that thieves had stolen four fowls.
Sgt Agyare said the complainant asked a community radio station to announce to the public, the theft.
He indicated that the complainant received information from Nana Chamme in Gyampokrom that Akuoko had been arrested with four fowls.
Sgt Agyare said the complainant went to Gyampokrom, and identified the fowls as his.
The prosecution said Akuoko was arrested and handed over to the Dadieso Police, where he confessed that he unlawfully went to the complainant’s farm and stole the four fowls.
