A circuit Court at Kumasi has sentenced a 41-year-old farmer to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour for possessing 128.24 grammes of cannabis without lawful authorisation.
Kofi Antwi, also known as Ratty, pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of narcotic drugs without lawful authority.
The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Comfort Buffour Kyei told the court, presided over by Mrs. Afia Adu Amankwah, that Antwi, who hails from Afoakoh, near Jacobu, was arrested September 21, 2015.
This was after a Sangyong mini bus with the registration number AW-2694-13, carrying passengers including Antwi, was intercepted at Watchman, near Akrokeri in the Ashanti Region, by a police patrol team.
According to Chief Insp. Kyei, when police thoroughly searched the bus, they found a black polythene bag containing dried leaves, suspected to be cannabis.
He said the exhibit, was handed over to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit in Kumasi for investigations.
The Prosecutor said, Antwi in his caution statement accepted ownership of the black polythene bag which contained the dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.
