Farmer gets 12 months for assaulting neighbour

The Enchi District Magistrate Court presided by Mr Eric Baah Boateng has convicted a farmer, Kwaku Gyasi, 30, to 12 months imprisonment in hard labour for assaulting his neighbour Job Nketia.

The accused, who pleaded guilty to the charge was convicted on his own plea and was also fined GH¢1,200.00 or in default serve additional 12 months in prison.

He was also ordered to compensate the complainant with an amount of GH¢2,000.00

Detective Joseph Kwadwo Agyare told the court that Gyasi and Nketia were farmers and residents of Odifokrom in Aowin.

Prosecution said on December 10, 2018 at about 11:35pm the complainant’s wife, Gladys Asamoah, and her friend, Joana Quashie, who were sitting in the complainant’s compound saw a strange person flashing a torchlight behind the house.

Detective Agyare said the complainant scouted around the house and saw the shadow of someone, and he decided to follow it closely.

Prosecution said the complainant saw Gyasi in possession of a luggage, and she asked him what he was looking for.

The court heard that Gyasi attempted to assault the complainant, and this resulted in a fight between them.

He said a neighbour separated Gyasi and complainant, but Gyasi attacked the complainant and bit off his lower lip.

The prosecution said Nketia reported the matter to the Boniso Police and he was issued with a medical report form to attend hospital for treatment. –  GNA
