Fake soldier arrested in Takoradi

The military in Takoradi have arrested Yakubu Alabani, 31, for posing as a soldier, the police have reported.

Alabani, according to the police, also duped two persons of a total of GH¢ 7,300 under the pretext of enlisting his victims into the Ghana Armed Forces.

The suspect is currently in custody while investigations continued.

Briefing the Ghanaian Times yesterday, the Western Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, said at 2.30 pm, on Monday, two military officers arrested  Alabani and brought him to the Central Police Station, Takoradi.

The soldiers, she said, reported that, Alabani collected GH¢3,000.00 and GH¢ 4,300.00 from Stephen Osei Jones and Benjamin Kumah respectively, under the pretext of enlisting them into the Ghana Armed Forces.

“The soldiers conducted a search in the suspect’s hotel room No. 7 at the Evergreen Line Hotel at Ahenkofi, in Takoradi, and found two pairs of military boots, a military camouflage trousers and T-shirt, a military bag, a shocker, handcuffs, pepper spray and fake military I.D. card,”ASP Adiku added.
