Suspect, Silas Prosper Kudiabor

A self-styled medical doctor has been arrested by the police for allegedly duping victims under the pretext of securing them National Health Insurance (NHIS) cards.

Briefing The Ghanaian Times, the Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Assistant Superintendent of Police Afia Tenge, said Silas Prosper Kudiabor, 35, unemployed, resident at Kaneshie, Accra, was arrested at the Accra Regional Hospital( Ridge Hospital) by some security personnel.

She said on June 5, 2017, Kudiabor  met one of his victims (name withheld), whose brother was on admission at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

ASP Tenge said Kudiabor introduced himself to the victim as a medical doctor, and the victim asked him ( Kudiabor) to assist him secure NHIS card, in order to settle his medical bills.

According to the Police PRO, Kudiabor asked the victim to pay GH¢230 to enable him fast-track the issuance of the card.

The PRO said, Kudiabor pointed to the victim an office where he claimed he operate from.

ASP Tenge said after Kudiabor collected the said amount from the victim, he failed to produce the card and went into hiding.

She said Kudiabor using the same modus operandi, went to Accra Regional Hospital on June 7, and met his old school mate, who was a taxi driver.

ASP Tenge said Kudiabor told his friend that he was a doctor and had been posted to the Accra Regional Hospital.

“A woman heard the conversation, and asked if Kudiabor can assist her in securing an NHIS card. Kudiabor took GH¢110 from the woman and asked her to wait for the card, but never returned,” the Police PRO said.

ASP Tenge said the woman reported the case to the security personnel, who told the woman Kudiabor was not a medical doctor at the hospital.

She said when the security personnel arrested Kudiabor at the hospital,he confessed to the crime.
