A former Principal of St. Monica Training College at Asante Mampong in the Ashanti Region, Mrs. Lucy Peprah Tawiah, was on Saturday, butchered with a cutlass by her houseboy at her residence at Abelemkpe in Accra.
Three others, including two house helps, also sustained injuries when they attempted to rescue Mrs. Tawiah from the suspect, Osman Yakubu, a Burkina Faso national.
Yakubu was arrested by the police after the incident and is assisting in investigation.
The house helps, only identified as Micheal and Roland, are at the Police Hospital receiving treatment, while Ronnie Djanison,a taxi driver who entered the house to rescue them, has since been treated and a discharged.
Information gathered by the The Ghanaian Times revealed that the suspect believed the other house helps had been gossiping about him to Mrs. Tawiah.
The Tesano District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Edward Tetteh, confirmed the tragedy to The Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday.
He said at about 10pm on November 12, the police had information that Yakubu had attacked Mrs. Tawiah and other occupants of the house.
DSP Tetteh stated that night police patrol teams from Tesano and Kotobabi police proceeded to the scene to intervene.
He said when they got to the house, the suspect had barricaded himself in one of the rooms but they managed to overpower and arrested him.
The Commander said the injured were rushed to the Police Hospital for medical treatment while the body of the deceased had been deposited at the same hospital for autopsy.
