Estate agent defiles girl, 14

A 57-year-old estate agent, Kwame Opoku, has been remanded in prison custody, for defiling a 14-year-old girl.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement when he appeared before the Gender-based Violence Court, presided over by Mrs. Rita Agyeman-Budu.

He would appear again on February 4.

Prosecuting Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Moses Atibilla said the accused lives in the same vicinity with the victim and her parents at Akweteman, near Achimota.

On January 7, at about 9 o’clock in the morning, Opoku saw the girl going to school and asked her to come for a Christmas gift after school, but she fdid not.

In the afternoon of January 9, the accused again saw the girl going to her uncle’s house and asked her to follow him home for the gift. She obliged, and when they entered the house he lured her into his room and forcibly had sex with her.

After the act, the accused gave victim GH¢5 and warned her never to tell anyone.

On January 12, a neighbour informed the girl’s father of having seen her coming out of Opoku’s house, on the date of the offence.

Upon interrogation, the girl revealed her ordeal and Opoku was arrested.
