Employers in trouble for failing to pay SSINT contributions of staff

An Accra Magistrate Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the Director of Square One Limited, for failing to pay the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) contributions of his workers.

Jefferson Michael was served with criminal summons to appear before court, but he failed to do so.

Prosecutor, Paul Parker Atitsogbui of SSNIT, Legon branch, told the court presided by Dr. Worlanyor Kotoku, that the company was registered by the Basic National Security Scheme, under the National Pensions Act, Act 766 with registration number 201503449.

He said investigations conducted by SSNIT into the activities of the accused, revealed that the director did not submit contribution reports on workers between November 2016 and June 2017.

Meanwhile, two others, Philip Ayensu, Director of X-MEN, a barbering salon at East Legon, Accra, and Nwuba Alexander, Managing Director of Smile Air Ghana Limited, have been summoned for similar offences.

According to the prosecutor, Ayensu failed to register his company with SSNIT, despite being in business between January 2015 and July 2, 2017, adding that Act 766 requires all establishments to register with the Trust within one month of commencement of business.

Mr. Atitsogbui said Smile Air Ghana Limited, was in arrears of GHc4,115.23.

He said investigations conducted indicated that HE failed to submit contribution reports on workers between October 2014 and March 2017, to the Trust.
