Elite Cup to get sponsorship

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to announce a headline sponsor for the ongoing novelty competition dubbed the Elite Cup in two weeks times.

The competition played between Premier and Division One clubs is set to be made a permanent feature on the Ghanaian football calendar but has been without any sponsor since it began in December last year.

But speaking to Accra based Hot FM yesterday, president of the GFA noted that his outfit has reached out to some corporate bodies to take up the sponsorship of the competition in the coming weeks.

“I can confidently break the news that in the next two weeks, the GFA will announce a headline sponsor for the Elite Cup”, Mr. Nyantakyi stated.

The lack of sponsorship for the competition has brought some untold hardship on some competing teams who have complained of the huge financial burden participating in the competition has brought to them, forcing former premier league campaigners Okwahu United to   withdraw from the competition.

The competition introduced late last year is to keep clubs active and to meet FIFA requirements on the number of matches players are to play in a season, combines both the knock out and league models over a two-leg knock out phase for some 32 Division one clubs.
