Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Captain Nkrabea Effah Dartey (Rtd), has expressed interest to contest the Berekum West seat in the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries, which has been set for June 13.
He contested in the party’s presidential primaries in 2007 but did not win.
Captain Dartey (Rtd) who was also a former Member of Parliament (MP) for the same constitu-ency, lost to his opponent, Kwaku Agyeman Boateng in 2008 and also made attempts for the NPP’s General Secretary position but failed.
Captain Dartey said he wanted to contest for the seat because of pressure from party faithfuls and youth of the constituency, saying “anytime I go for a funeral or any other function they tell me Nkrabea if you don’t come the NPP will lose the seat to NDC”.
Other aspirants for the party’s primaries so far included former Joy FM’s morning show host, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, former Chief Marketing officer of MTN, George Andah and lead counsel for the NPP in the 2012 election petition, Philip Addison.
