Edukans, a non-governmental organisation from the Netherlands with focus on education has donated reusable exercise books to primary pupils at the Kabore School Complex in Ho.
The donation had support from Savana Signatures, a Tamale based non-governmental organisation.
The exercise books allow for students to reuse a particular page severally because work done on a page could be erased and the same page used again.
The gesture is expected to ease the burden on parents in supplying books to pupils and help protect the environment through less use of paper.
Madam Bracha Van Doesbuegh, Ambassador, Edukans, said the donation was part of an educational exchange pilot project between some selected schools in Ghana and the Netherlands called “Schoolmates” a cooperation, which gives the students from both countries the opportunity to learn about each other’s culture through education.
She said the project also allows participating students to acquire knowledge and critical thinking skills through positive experience sharing via the social media.
Madam Doesbuegh said the project provided new curriculum in primary schools where pupils watch videos of each other’s schools and lifestyles and develop a sense of belonging to a common humanity.
Mr Richard Bonny, Volta Regional Project Officer, Savana Signatures said the project had so far covered five other schools in the region: Regional Model School, Fiave E.P. Basic, Mawuli Basic “C”, Ho Poly Basic and Ho Kpodzi Primary and four other schools in the Northern Region.
Edukans works towards the best possible education in developing countries by training and educating young people for a better life.
