ECG does not sell meters- Regional Manager

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) does not sell meters to its clients, the Tema Regional Manager Mr Joseph Mensah Forson has disclosed.

He, has therefore, cautioned that it was illegal to remove a meter from one place to another without the knowledge of the ECG.

Addressing the media here in Tema on Monday, Mr Forson said all the meters supplied by the ECG were the property of the company and that clients only paid “installation fee.”

He stated that tenants who needed separate meters require the endorsement of their landlords and landladies because they were responsible for both the assets and liabilities.

The managing director advised the public not to allow themselves to be victims of illegal dealers in meters but always use the right sources to get their meters.

He called on the public to report staff who misconducted themselves to the company for disciplinary action to be taken against them to ensure that clients got the best of services.

In an interview with the Ghanaian Times, he warned clients who engaged in illegal use of electricity to desist from it since the company was engaging in a vigorous meter auditing exercise to bring all such persons to book.

Mr Forson said compromising meters, robbed the nation of huge sums of money which could have been used to purchase equipment and put in various mechanisms to improve service delivery.

He disclosed that the Tema Regional Office was poised to seeing massive improvement in its revenue collection, “We would ensure that leakages are blocked. We want to see revenue collection and revenue protection at its best to bring about maximisation of the total revenue” he said.
