A man described by the police as a notorious “wee” dealer, who has been on their wanted list since 2013 has been arrested at Akatsi by the patrol team of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD).
Saviour Fianu, 30, had bolted leaving behind two vehicles used in transporting the substance and had, for almost two years, been evading arrest until last Friday.
This time, Fianu took to his heels and left behind his taxi cab, with registration number AS 6440-Q, but the policemen gave him a chase and caught up with him.
He had 140 parcels and three sacks of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana on board the vehicle, which was heading towards Aflao from Asikuma in the Eastern Region.
This brings to three, the number of vehicles impounded from Fianu since the police began a manhunt for him two years ago.
The Volta Regional Police Commander, Mr. P. Y. Gyinae, said Fianu’s arrest followed a tip-off, adding that two of his accomplices were on the run.
According to Mr. Gyinae, the suspect was first intercepted by the police at Anlo-Afiadenyigba barrier on October 5, 2013 and a search conducted on his Mercedes Benz car, with registration number GR 9299 C, revealed 26 parcels of marijuana concealed beneath the back seats.
As soon the items were discovered, Fianu fled the scene, leaving his car behind.
Again on June 15, 2014, Fianu escaped when a team of policemen raided his house at Finte, following a tip off that he had piled up sacks of marijuana there.
Mr. Gyinae said, the police impouded the 172 parcels he left behind.
Then on July 27, last year, Fianu was arrested by the police at Dzemeni after 60 parcels of marijuana were discovered in his taxi cab with registration number GT8674 R, but he managed to flee again, leaving the vehicle behind.
Meanwhile, Mr. Gyinae said the dried leaves found on Fianu’s vehicles and in his house, had been tested by the Police Forensic Laboratory in Accra and confirmed to be marijuana.
