Drug dealer killed at Ho

A MEMBER of a gang of suspected drug dealers was hit and killed by a bullet when the gun of a police officer went off accidentally during a scuffle between the duty officers and the gangsters at Ho on Wednesday evening.

The deceased, who was only identified by the police as Fulani, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Ho Municipal Hospital where he was rushed to.

The Volta Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Seidu Adamu, who confirmed the story to Ghanaian Times in Ho yesterday, said that the incident took place at about 7pm.

He said that while a team of policemen were on an anti-narcotics operation near a  spot in the municipality known as Kpakpo, the gangsters engaged them in a fight during which the weapon of one officer fell onto the ground.

Sup. Adamu said as another policeman tried to take the  gun from the ground, a gangster struggled with him for the weapon.

“In the process the gun went off accidentally and hit the deceased in the abdomen”, the Regional Crime Officer said.

Sup.  Adama said 10 of the suspected narcotics dealers have been arrested by the police, and “for now, we are screening the suspects while the body of the deceased is at the municipal hospital’s mortuary awaiting autopsy”.
