Driver’s mate killed in accident

A driver’s mate was killed on Friday morning, when a heavy duty truck  crashed into his trotro bus.

The drivers of the 207 bus with registration number AW 1848Y and the heavy duty truck with registration number GT 7768 A, only sustained injuries.

Superintendent Oduro Amaning, the Tema Regional MTTU Commander, told the Ghana News Agency that the accident occurred at about 11.30 a.m. at the Mankoadze roundabout near the VVIP Bus Terminal, Tema Community One.

The two drivers were rushed to the Tema General Hospital, while the body of the mate, whose intestines had gushed out, was deposited at the hospital’s morgue.

Information gathered indicated that the trotro, which was heading towards the Tema Community Centre, parked behind a stationary truck for its passengers to alight, while the driver’s mate poured water into the radiator.

In the process, the heavy truck lost control and hit the back of the trotro and trapped the mate in between it and his vehicle.

Supt. Amaning was worried that despite the several warnings to drivers not to use that place as a lorry station, some drivers have defied the order and picked passengers there.

When the GNA got to the scene at about 11.50 a.m., a towing vehicle of the Ghana National Fire Service was towing the truck to create passage, for the heavy traffic which had built there as a result of the accident.—GNA
