A 19-year-old driver’s mate, Samuel Nii Lartey Botchway, was on Monday, sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court for defiling a 12-year-old girl at Lotto House, Agege, in Accra.
Samuel, who pleaded guilty to the charge, was sentenced by the court, presided over by Mrs Rita Agyemang-Budu, on his own plea.
Police Inspector Grace Bandor told the court that the driver’s mate lived in the same vicinity, 205 Dansoman, with the victim’s family.
She said at about 6.30 p.m. on May 20, the girl was sent by her grandfather to buy bread, but kept long in coming back.
Later, a neighbour informed the grandfather that he saw the girl entering Botchway’s room.
The prosecution said, when questioned upon her return, the girl said she was called by Botchway into his room and he assaulted her sexually.
A report was made to the Dansoman Police and the victim was medically examined.
After investigations, Botchway was charged with the offence.
