Driver kills woman, 2 grandchildren

deadThe police have mounted a hunt for the driver of a Blue 207 Benz Bus who knocked and killed a woman and her two grandchildren on the Teshie-Nungua road in Accra, on Saturday night.

Madam Adjoa Odey, 75, and her grandchildren, Jessica Owusu, 10 and Jacklyn Owusu, 8, died on the spot.

They had alighted from a taxi and were attempting to cross the road when the vehicle crashed into them.

They were said to have returned from their maternal grandfather’s funeral at Kordiabe, near Afienya.

The father of the children is Staff Sergeant Owusu at the Southern Command.

The Greater Accra Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Afia Tenge, who confirmed the tragedy to The Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday, said the incident occurred at about 8pm near the Goil Filling Station at Teshie.

She said when the police had the information, they proceeded to the scene and took the bodies to the Police Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

She said information available indicated that the bus had picked passengers from Teshie and was moving towards Accra when the accident occurred, but the driver sped off with the passengers on board.

ASP Tenge appealed to the passengers to contact the police to help trace the driver.
