Driver Convicted for threatening a woman

A 33-YEAR-OLD driver at Ehi, near Dzodze in the Volta Regions, Tettey Gomashie, was last week sentenced to a fine of GH¢2,400 by the Dzodze District Magistrate Court, for threatening to kill a woman who causing the arrest of six young men, who allegedly gang-raped her daughter.

In default, he will serve 12 months in prison.

Inspector N.K. Amuzu, quoted Gomashie as telling the woman (name withheld) that: “If you do not ensure that the boys, you claimed gang-raped your daughter are released I will kill you, and cut your body into pieces”.

Prosecution told the court, presided over by Mr. Lawrence Buenor Buer, that after the woman’s teenage daughter was gang-raped one night in Ehi, sometime in January this year, the woman become the subject of ridicule in the community.

The accused in particular had persistently cast insinuations at the woman for causing the arrest of the suspects, the court was told.

According to Inspt. Amuzu, Gomashie who lives in the same area with the woman, at Ehi, approached her on February 20 and threatened her with death.

The woman reported the matter to the police, leading to the arrest of Gomashie.

Although Gomashie pleaded not guilty, the court said that the prosecution had proved his guilt beyond doubt.
