Driver arrested with 41 slabs of cannabis

cannabisA 37-year-old driver was arrested by the police at Nsawam in the Eastern Region for allegedly possessing 41 slabs of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.

Sevor Paul and an accomplice, now on the run, were on board an Nsawam-Adeiso taxi cab with registration number GR 5726-13, when he was arrested.

The Nsawam District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Akwasi Kankam-Boadu told The Ghanaian Times that on Thursday, January 15, at about 10:15 a.m., the officer in charge of the Visibility Patrol Unit at Nsawam, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nana Anim, stopped the taxi cab which was without a front number plate being driven by Sevor.

He said immediately the officer stopped the vehicle, Sevor’s accomplice alighted from the car and took to his heels, which aroused his suspicion so he searched the car and found three travelling bags which, when searched revealed the slabs.

“Sevor was consequently arrested,” he said, adding that he was currently in the custody of the police assisting in investigations.

He said the suspected cannabis, would be sent to the forensic laboratory for testing.
