Dr. Wereko-Brobbey’s Woes Deepen

The woes of suspended New Patriotic Party founding member, Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobbey are far from over.
Lawyer Ayikoi Otoo, a leading member of the party has hinted that Dr. Wereko-Brobbey’s suspension could be a major step towards his expulsion from the party.

Mr. Ayikoi Otoo made the revelation on JOY FM’s news analysis programme, Newsfile, on Saturday.
The NPP’s highest decision making body, the National Executive Committee, last week suspended the former Volta River Authority Chief Executive, for his comments on the ongoing election petition, deemed to be at variance with the party’s interest.

He criticized the NPP’s court challenge of the 2012 presidential election result and also described the party’s 2012 Vice Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as key witness in the hearing, as  “clueless” and confused.

Tarzan, as Dr. Wereko-Brobbey he  is popularly called, commended Johnson Asiedu Nketia, witness for the third respondents in the petition, the governing National Democratic Congress, for his performance, for his  evidence and subsequent cross examination by counsel for the petitioners, Philip Addison.

Meanwhile, Dr. Wereko-Brobbey has accused the leadership of his own party, the New Patriotic Party, of masterminding media attacks against his personality.

He alleged this on Metro TV’s Thank God it’s Friday with KSM, Dr. Wereko-Brobbey stated that, the people attacking him on the airwaves were sponsored by the executives of the party, noting “they go to the NPP headquarters,  give they tell them the line to tow and  give them credit cards to defame me”.

“Some other guy wrote some nonsense about me and they said he is a Lecturer at the University, and he speaks for Nana Addo and I asked “so what?” asked. I can dismiss many of those criticisms because they are coming from people of neither substance nor achievement for themselves and the party they claim, they want to die for,” he stressed.

Meanwhile a former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Kwaku Botwe, has said that he would have sacked ‘loudmouth’ Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobbey in less than three hours, if he was still the party’s general secretary.

“I believe the national leadership made a wise decision by suspending Dr. Wereko-Brobbey for  going out loudly on the party, as we battle our petition in court,” he noted.

Mr. Botwe who is the Member of Parliament for Okere disclosed this on Hello FM on Saturday.
He added that the NPP has been tolerant and that suspending somebody for misconduct did not mean that the party is being intolerant.

Quoting Article 3 D 4 of the party’s constitution to substantiate his claim, Hon. Botwe said the leadership unanimously agreed to suspend Dr. Wereko-Brobbey. He added: “Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobbey has bitten more than he can chew, and he must dance to the music being played.”
