Dr Arthur Kennedy Says It’s Premature

kennedyDr. Kobina Arthur Kennedy has described as ‘premature’ the assertion that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will be contesting the 2016 presidential slot on the ticket of the party.

The General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as “Sir John,” has stated on several media outlets that the party’s 2012 presidential aspirant Nana Akufo-Addo would contest for the 2016 elections.

The NPP scribe repeatedly said “Nana Addo will lead NPP even if he is in a wheelchair,” giving strong indications that nothing would change his candidature.

But Dr Kennedy said Nana Addo should be allowed to rest just as he (Nana) indicated when he conceded defeat; following the Supreme Court ruling.

“I think that those comments were premature. Nana Addo himself said he needs some time to rest and reflect on his political future and I think that he deserves some space and some time to reflect on his future,” he indicated.

In a related development, the Greater Accra Regional Communications Director of the NPP, Michael Ampong, has said the attempt by some national executive members of the party to impose Nana Akufo-Addo on the party for the 2016 elections was a ploy to hide their own weaknesses.

He said it was baffling to accept why some leading members of the party would root for Akufo- Addo when he just took a break from politics.

Michael Ampong said such attempts by the national executive would be detrimental to the future of the party.

“Let nobody try to deepen the factions in our party. The antics of trying to promote factionalism to secure positions in the party are over. We are wide awake and no one can fool anybody,” he declared.

He opined that the party needed to make room for others to vie for positions purely on merit. Source: ghanaweb
