Dr. Addo-Kufuor Supports Akufo-Addo

A former Minister of Defence in the Kufuor administration, Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor, has supported the call for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2016 general elections.

Dr. Kufuor explained that the twice defeated flagbearer would represent the NPP’s best chance of snatching the presidency from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to him, the political maturity Nana Akufo-Addo demonstrated after the Supreme Court dismissed his petition challenging the outcome of the 2012 presidential election had endeared him to many Ghanaians and therefore made him the NPP’s best bet.

Dr. Addo Kufuor who is a member of the party’s Disciplinary Committee made the suggestion in an interview with Nhyira FM in Kumasi.
He called on all party sympathisers to use established structures to address their grievances instead of rushing to the media to create unnecessary anxiety among grassroot supporters.

The question of who should be the flag-bearer of the party in the next election has become a hotly contested issue with some top notches advocating that Nana Akufo-Addo contests again.

However, other leading members such as Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, have publicly expressed their desire for a change in leadership.
Dr. Apraku, Richard Anane and Alan Kyerematen, all former Ministers have expressed their desire to to vie for the flag-bearership.

Dr. Apraku came under heavy criticism from some bigwigs in the NPP for saying, “The party will not do itself any good if it endorses a Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahammudu Bawumia partnership for 2016”.—myjoyonline
