Doctor drowns in river Okue

A medical practitioner Dr. Enock Ofosu Boakye, died when his Toyota Corolla car with registration number GE 9954-14, got submerged in the Okue stream on Monday.

The body of the 27-year-old doctor has been deposited at the Akuse Government Hospital mortuary.

He was a staff of Kenop Care Hospital at Nkawkaw, in the Eastern region.

The Akuse District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Francis Acka, who confirmed this to The Ghanaian Times, said the accident occurred at about 4:30 am while Dr. Boakye was coming from Somanya towards Akuse in the Eastern Region, at dawn on Monday.

The doctor seemed not familiar with the road as the car veered off while crossing the bridge and fell into the river.

ASP Acka said the body and the vehicle were retrieved from the stream with the assistance of some residents of the area.

He said when the police arrived at the scene and searched his pocket, the ignition key was inside.
