Deputy Minister’s Bodyguard Busted



Ms. Rachel Florence AppohFor sometime now, the Deputy Minister of Gender Children and Social Protection, Ms. Rachel Florence Appoh, has been suspecting secret withdrawals of money from her bank account without her approval.

She, therefore, alerted the bankers, the Agricultural Development Bank which mounted surveillance on it.

It turned out to be that her personal police guard who was making the secret withdrawals.

In the first instance, Nicholas Owusu-Asante, 28, who has been with the Minister since May, this year, stole a cheque,  from the Minister’s car and withdrew GH¢800 from her account at the Adabraka branch of the ADB.

In the latest incident which took place at the same bank on Tuesday, November 19, Nicholas was arrested, as he attempted to withdraw GH¢100 with a forged signature of Ms Appoh on the cheque.

A reliable source from the police confirmed the incident and said investigations are going on.

The source said based on the surveillance, the bank officials became suspicious and interrogated Nicholas as he attempted to cash the cheque and handed him to the police.

Nicholas is to be put before court on charges of stealing, forgery and attempted stealing, as soon as investigations are concluded. By Anita Nyarko
