Del Potro injured

JUAN Martin del Potro’s rotten luck with injuries continued after it was revealed he had fractured his right kneecap.

The Argentine, who reached the US Open final in September, picked up the injury after falling during his third-round match against Borna Coric at the Shanghai Masters. He retired after the first set.

“It’s a very difficult moment. I feel very sad. It’s a hard blow that leaves me without strength,” he said in a statement.

“It’s very difficult for me to think about recovery again, I did not expect this to happen.”

While the statement did not officially call time on his season, it is hugely unlikely Del Potro will recover in time for the ATP World Tour Finals in November.
