Dede nearly sacked by Grant?

DdywBUT for the intervention of Messrs Kujo Fiano and George Afriyie, Coach Avram Grant would have sacked Andre Dede Ayew from the Black Stars camp in Spain for breaking camping rules, Ghanasportsonline can reveal.

Kujo Fiano, the deputy chairman of the Black Stars management committee, confirmed this in an interview with Happy Fm this morning.

“Myself and George Afriyie had to intervene and apologize on behalf of Andre Ayew for arriving late in camp because Avram Grant was very unhappy about the player’s late arrival in Spain.” Kujo Fiano told Happy Fm.

“Grant sees Dede as a player who could lead the team in the future and expects him to lead an exemplary life.” Fiano added

Dede’s explanation that he could not get a flight from France to Spain in time so he had to charter one, did not sit well with the Israeli trainer who decided to send back the Marseille talisman but for the intervention of members of the management committee.

Andre Dede Ayew, Christian Atsu and Jeffrey Schlupp were supposed to meet the team in camp in Sevilla a night after the team’s arrival but the under 20 world cup winner reported late.

Meanwhile, the Ghana FA is in talks with an unnamed African opponent to face the Black Stars in the final pre-tournament friendly on January 14th if SC Freiburg decides to pull out of the warm-up match.

The Black Stars originally agreed to play against Freiburg in Algeciras before the German outfit tackles Mainz 05 in Marbella.

But, Communications Director of the GFA, Ibrahim Sannie Darra claims there could be a late change in the choice of opponents.

“Our last friendly will be against German Bundesliga side Freiburg on the 14th of January but there could be some changes so the officials are talking to an African opponent. You will realize that we have played only European opposition so far in our preparations,” Sannie Darra said.

Freiburg have been camping in Sotogrande, a municipality of Santa Roque in Cadiz, Spain ahead of their German Bundesliga second round clash against Eintracht Frankfurt on January 31st.

Avram Grant’s side secured a 3-0 victory over Olhanense in the first test match in Portugal on January 7 before holding SC Cambuur to a 1-1 draw last Thursday.
