A 60-member committee charged with mounting close surveillance at the Asenanyo Forest Reserve in the Nkawie District Forest Services Division (FDS) of the Forestry Commission has been inaugurated and inducted into office at Nyinahin in the Atwima-Mponua District of Ashanti.
The programme, organised by the Nkawie District Directorate of the Forest Services Division (FSD) in collaboration with Nature Development Foundation (NDF) a non-governmental organisation (NGO) was sponsored by the European Union (EU).
Members of the committee were drawn from three fringe communities namely Akotaa, Kansakrom and Bayerebon No. 5.
The Nkawie District Manager of the Forest Services Division (FSD) of the Forestry Commission, Nana Poku Bosompem, who performed the ceremony implored them to be vigilant in the task ahead them to prevent the forest from degradation.
He urged them to intensify tree-planting activities in their communities with seedlings that will be supplied them by the Forest Services Division.
The members were later presented with protective clothing, raincoats, wellington boots, torch-lights and matchets to enhance their work.
