A leading member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Prince Ahiadzro, has commended the government for continuing the rehabilitation of the Sogakofe-Adidome-Ho road which was commenced by the John Kufuor administration.
The project is almost completed, leaving only a stretch of less than half a kilometre between Adaklu-Sikama and Adaklu-Kpetsu to be tarred.
Mr. Ahiadzro, who is also the spokesman for Tourism and a seasoned hotelier, noted that the rehabilitation would open up the area to tourism and other economic activities.
In an interview with The Ghanaian Times on Thursday, in Ho, he noted that apart from the Kalakpa Game Reserve which is located along the road, the communities had immense and diverse potentials for tourism.
“Food joints are also likely to spring up along the road which now attracts a large volume of traffic,” he added.
Mr. Ahiadzro, a former Volta Regional CPP Chairman, said the road would further provide easier access to the gari producing communities in the area, and “that is a boost to business”.
He urged government to rehabilitate the Ho-Denu road as well, saying “it has become dangerous to vehicular movement, due to too many patches”.
He pointed out that the road linked Ghana to Togo and it was important to make it up to international standards, to facilitate regional integration.
Mr. Ahiadzro said the numerous hotels, historical sites, shrines and regular cultural events in the communities along the road would attract tourists and rake in revenue as well as create employment.
According to Mr. Ahiadzro, prospects for the hospitality industry in the area were very bright, now that the international highway passed through the Akanu border post.
