Court issues bench warrant for arrest of 2 illegal miners

The Bolgatanga Circuit Court presided over by Melcolm Bedzrah  has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of two illegal gold miners to appear before it on January 31, 2018, after failing to appear before  it yesterday.

The two, Yaba Adirebe, 33, a farmer and Issah Hamzah, 20, unemployed, were arrested by the Navrongo Police for mining  without authority contrary to section 99 of the Mineral Act 206 Act 703.

They were expected to appear before the court yesterday, after they had been granted bail, but failed to show up, compelling the court to issue a bench warrant for their arrest.

Presenting the facts of the case, the Prosecutor Inspector K.O. Boateng told the court that upon a tip-off, the accused persons were arrested at the Naaga community, a suburb of the Navrongo municipality on October 27, 2017.

Prosecution said the two illegal miners failed to produce their mining licenses when they were accosted, hence their arrest and arraignment.
