Couple, children die in acid attack

A family of five people died yesterday in a bizarre incident at Yawkyeremakrom, a suburb of Koforidua, in the New Juaben Municipality of the Eastern region.

The police found them with severe burns and suspected an acid attack.

The dead, a couple and their three children, were identified as Kwasi Asare,50, and Janet his wife,40, Ella,15, Edmund,13, and Ohene, 7.

The bodies have been conveyed to the morgue of the Koforidua Central Hospital for autopsy.

The Deputy Eastern Regional Police Commander, ACP James Abass Abaa, told The Ghanaian Times that the police had begun investigations into the incident.

Residents, however, suspected the man to have killed his wife and also drunk a lethal substance.

They alleged that the couple have had several quarrels and believed that the man might have stabbed his wife and poured acid on all of them before killing himself.
