Cop interdicted for assaulting woman at Midland

Lance Corporal Frederick Amanor, the policeman in the centre of controversy surrounding the Midland Savings and Loans (MSL), has been interdicted by the Police Administration.

A panel has also been constituted to deal per police disciplinary procedure with Lance Corporal Amanor, who was shown in a video assaulting a woman at the MSL.

The Director-General of the Police Public Affairs, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) David Eklu, stated these in a statement issued and sighted by the Ghanaian Times.

According to him, the victim has been contacted, and her statement taken and medical forms issued to her and the baby, who have since been treated and discharged.

The statement indicated that the Criminal Investigations Department was currently conducting further investigations into the case.

Also interdicted is Constable Amidu Osman, the policeman who mistakenly shot the bullion van driver, resulting in his death at Krobo-Odumasi in the Eastern Region, last Saturday.

The statement pledged of the Police Administration’s fullest cooperation to the independent committee set up by the government to probe the Manso-Nkwanta incident in the Ashanti Region.

It said the Inspector-General of Police, Mr David Asante-Apeatu, has directed all police personnel to uphold the highest level of profession, courtesy and respect for human rights, in line with the ongoing transformation agenda of the service.

“In addition, regional, divisional and district commanders have been given firm instructions to intensify supervision and monitoring of personnel in the discharge of their duties,” it said.

ACP Eklu assured the public that the Police Administration has taken note of the concerns, media comments and constructive criticisms to guide the police in their operations.
